It also means it faces conditions that are genuinely hostile to electronics: sustained heat above 110 degrees, UV intensity that degrades plastics and adhesives in a fraction of the time it would elsewhere, and monsoon humidity that creates condensation inside improperly protected enclosures. The Heat Problem

Consumer outdoor televisions and speakers are typically rated for operation up to around 95-100°F ambient. An Arizona patio on a July afternoon can see surface temperatures well above that, especially for equipment in direct sun. Electronics running at the edge of their thermal envelope fail faster, especially under load. A display running maximum brightness in 110-degree direct sun is in a very different situation than the same display in a shade-covered installation.

UV Degradation: The Slow Failure Mode

UV is patient. It doesn't fail equipment immediately — it degrades it over seasons until performance and reliability drop, or until a component fails in a way that's difficult to trace back to UV exposure. Enclosure plastics become brittle. Speaker surround materials degrade. Display bezel coatings peel. Connectors develop oxidation that increases resistance and introduces noise.

Specifying equipment with genuine UV resistance — marine-grade materials, UV-stabilized enclosures, stainless hardware — is the difference between a five-year system and a fifteen-year system. This applies to every component mounted outdoors, not just the visible pieces.

Monsoon Season and Moisture Management

Arizona's monsoon season brings real moisture — not just rain but blowing dust followed by humidity spikes, a combination that's particularly hard on electronic equipment. Equipment enclosures that aren't properly sealed will accumulate dust during dry season and then trap moisture during monsoon, creating conditions for condensation and corrosion inside the enclosure.

Power and Protection
